- A special Carbon Paste will be applied to areas of your face excluding an area around your eyes and a margin around your mouth. The Carbon Paste is allowed to dry for approximately 10 – 15 minutes and during this time will be absorbed by the superficial dead skin cells of your face but will not penetrate to deeper living cells. A laser with a very short pulse is used to interact with the paste which causes the Carbon to vaporize along with the dead skin cells. The resulting skin will appear fresher, and the skin’s pore size will reduce. often blackheads are removed by the treatment. A series of treatments will induce the deeper layers of the skin to produce new collagen that reduces the appearance of f ine lines. Each impact on the skin from the laser will cause a slight tingling sensation – there is no pain associated with this Carbon Peel treatment. There is a risk that the laser will have an adverse reaction on the skin in the treated area if your skin type is too dark or if you have red spots or pigmented blemishes on your skin at the time of treatment. Precautions will be taken to minimize this risk – your Skin Type will be assessed and any blemishes that may cause problems noted.
Side effects are minimal after a ‘Carbon Peel’, with slight redness and tingling a few hours post treatment. Temporary hair removal to the treated area can occur, and some individuals may experience a mild outbreak the week following the treatment. Lightening of facial hair can also occur as one of the Carbon Laser Facial side effects.
There is no pain associated with the Carbon Laser Peel treatment. During the procedure, you may experience slight tingling and warmth on the skin, which is normal while the laser pulses away the thin layer of Carbon.
- - - No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc. Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.) History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment if treating in the area that breakouts occur. AVOID: facial scrubs, oral acne medications, heat, Retin-A, hydroquinone, tretinoin cream, corticosteroids, glycol acid (GA) and azelaic acid.
Treat your skin gently after getting a laser carbon peel by continuing to moisturize daily. It’s normal to see some flaking or experience dryness for a few days, but not everyone experiences this. Use sunscreen regularly with at least SPF 30+ for several days after treatment. Don’t use any products containing retinol for at least five days after treatment. Do not exfoliate or use any abrasive or invasive skin treatments for at least one week. If you have oily skin, use products designed to combat acne to maintain optimum results. Use products containing collagen, collagen supplements, or follow a collagen-boosting diet if you have photoaged skin or fine lines. Cleansing - Shower as normal. Be advised that treated areas may be sensitive to temperature. Avoid soaking/submersion in hot tubs of water, scrubbing/use of exfoliants, brushes, or loofah sponges until the treatment area has returned to its pre-treatment condition.
Some clients will see results immediately post treatment. In some cases, Congestion such as black heads are brought to the surface and can be scrapped off immediately after treatment. The skin may also appear brighter in complexion. Best results are seen after a series of treatment.
